FDA clears PTW’s patient QA platform VERIQA
Freiburg (GER), May 5, 2022 - The dosimetry specialist PTW Freiburg has received approval from U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) of its integrated software platform VERIQA for automated patient plan verification in radiotherapy QA.
The VERIQA software platform by PTW provides medical physicists and radiation oncologists with a comprehensive, streamlined solution that supports the entire patient QA workflow in modern radiation therapy. It helps to improve workflow efficiency and quality in patient QA by integrating all patient-specific quality assurance tasks into one single, web-based platform – from visualization and contouring through all commonly used plan verification methods to documentation. As a modular platform, VERIQA also gives clinical users the flexibility to choose the best verification method for their patient treatment plans.
The VERIQA platform currently comprises three modules, including VERIQA RT MonteCarlo 3D for accurate verification of patient treatment plans based on independent 3D dose calculations. Dose is calculated using the well-established SciMoCa™ Monte Carlo dose calculation algorithm. Calculation results are available in a few minutes, saving radiation oncology departments valuable time in daily quality assurance.
The next module to be added to the platform will enable true 3D pre-treatment and in vivo EPID dosimetry in a fully automated workflow. RT EPID 3D will help medical physicists to both identify and estimate the extent of potential patient-related errors for each delivered fraction.
“Patient safety and QA efficiency are a significant challenge in any radiation oncology department today”, said Robert Morrison, managing director of PTW North America Corporation. “With VERIQA, clinical users will have a highly effective tool at hand that satisfies both needs.”
